Education in the U.S. and Parental Responsibility

More and more these days there are programs popping up like mushrooms, intending to benefit the children of today. Unfortunately the vast assortment of programs seem to take away the parental responsibility from society. Every decade it gets worse, the children are forced to be evaluated and they are pre-determined at ages so early it’s getting a bit ridiculous.

Go way back to the 1950s and you’ll see that even kindergarten was something that the majority of children never experienced, because it was not really needed in the eyes of most people, nor affordable. Through the next decades kindergarten became a more popular choice for parents and politically became a game. The academic higher-ups toyed with the system, doing a trial and error type of thing with the education’s styles and methods.  Programs such as “Head Start” are forcing their way into the minds of the children and controlling their spirits as well as their curiosity.

These days it can take 13 to 14 years for a student to attain their diploma, and that’s if they don’t fail any grades. People don’t seem to be questioning whether this is good for the children or not, and instead just throw them into the system in hopes that the programs out there will better their child’s learning abilities and what not. Way back when, a child could graduate in 12 years, the way things are going by the next generation kids will start school at even earlier ages and finish even older.

So where is all the parental input in this? There isn’t much going on with that now, a good amount of parents just push their kids into some random new program guaranteed to fix their kids and take care of the “problems” that they may or may not have.

If you look at the results from all of this educational nonsense, the test scores and entrance exams, etc, you can plainly see that all of this additional schooling isn’t making much difference. Some could even say in situations, it makes everything a tad worse. With common sense you can see that this is not looking good, and as Jim Beeler said, “At what point do we just start a Nanny State and completely control the child?”  Parents need to take more responsibility in raising their children and get more involved in their education before we completely remove the parent from responsibility.
